Muriel Genadry and Rebecca Snyder, senior students at St. Paul's School for Girls, received the Advanced Placement Scholar Award. Three 1993 graduates of the school were also recognized as Advanced Placement Scholars. They are Suzanne Myers and Heather Spector, who qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award, and Kelly Prill, who received the AP Scholar with Honor Award.

James M. Furukawa, professor of psychology at Towson State University, is the recipient of the 13th annual President's Award for Distinguished Service to the university.

Mark McElreath, a faculty member at Towson State University in the Department of Speech and Mass Communication, received the Pride Award of the Public Relations Division of the Speech Communication Association for his book "Managing Systematic and Ethical Public Relations."

Eric Serfass, a student at Towson State University, was awarded $1,000 for designing a manual cover for a software package called "SoftDent," which will be used for dental office management purposes.

Toolsiedai Persaud of Essex is the first recipient of the Wes Blackmon Memorial Scholarship at Essex Community College.

jTC The following students at Essex Community College were awarded scholarships: Christine Schofield of Hamilton received the Marvin B. Hull Memorial Scholarship; Kristin Lee Gaines of Parkville received the Maryland Air National Guard Scholarship; Geraldine D. Oshman of Essex and Ruth E. Brisson of Middle River have been awarded the Madeline Cook Memorial Scholarship; Joseph Ruth of Dundalk received the Charles H. Hickey Jr. Memorial Scholarship; and Nancy Tull of Fullerton received the Alumni Association Vernon Wanty Scholarship.

Two faculty members at the Institute of Notre Dame, Kathleen Casey, chairwoman of the foreign language department, and Stacey Kalwa, English and journalism instructor, were selected for inclusion in "Who's Who Among America's Teachers."

Margaret Saffran of Catonsville, a nurse in the Ambulatory Surgery Center at St. Agnes Hospital, was chosen to receive the hospital's 1993 Vincentian Spirit Award of the Year.

Bettie and Clarence Garrett, of Ellicott City, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary March 27 at a dinner with family and friends at the Candle Light Inn in Catonsville.

David Stewart Jones, a senior at Gilman School, has won a 1994 Morehead Award to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
