Pittsburgh Pirates -- Extended the contracts of Bill Virdon, Ray Miller, Rich Donnelly, Tommy Sandt, Milt May and Spin Williams, coaches, through the 1995 season.

San Diego Padres -- Transferred OF Bobby Bonds from Single-A Rancho Cucamonga to extended spring training in Peoria, Ariz.. Transferred OF Mike Thomas from extended spring training to Rancho Cucamonga.

Seattle Mariners -- Purchased the contract of IF Dale Sveum from Triple-A Calgary. Optioned OF Darren Bragg to Calgary. Designated P Jeff Williams for assignment.

Toronto Blue Jays -- Announced they have sold the Double-A Knoxville Smokies to Don Beaver of North Carolina, pending the approval of the minor and major leagues. Extended a player development contract to Beaver for four years.

USA Baseball -- Named Chuck Anderson of Florida Southern coach, replacing Rich Alday, who resigned.

Basketball

NBA -- Granted a franchise to a Vancouver group headed by the NHL Vancouver Canucks owner Arthur Griffiths to begin play in 1995-96. Approved the application of the Los Angeles Clippers to play seven games a year, starting next season, at the Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim.

College

Arkansas Tech -- Named Charles Williams assistant football coach.

Cal State-San Bernardino -- Named Danny Aye men's basketball coach.

Essex Community College -- Named Tom Wall men's soccer coach.

Oral Roberts -- Named Rick Napier women's basketball coach.

Towson State -- C Courtney McClelland and DH Jen Weaver were named to the All-Big South softball team.

Portland -- Named Jim Shaw assistant basketball coach.

Princeton -- Jenny Bristow (Roland Park Country) was named Ivy League offensive player of the week after recording seven goals and seven assists in three games for the women's lacrosse team.
