Federal offices closed out of respect for Nixon

April 27, 1994

Most federal offices will be closed today out of respect for former President Richard M. Nixon, who died Friday in New York.

The Postal Service will suspend regular mail delivery and window service for the day, although Special Delivery and Express Mail will be delivered.

Congress will be closed, as will the Supreme Court.

However, chief judges in the circuits were left to decide whether to close other federal courts.

All U.S. stock, bond and commodities markets will be closed.

Banks will be open. All state and local services and offices will follow normal schedules.
