American League -- Suspended Toronto Blue Jays manager Cito Gaston for three games for his actions in an April 15 game. Selected Blue Jays OF Joe Carter player of the week.

National League -- Selected San Diego Padres OF Tony Gwynn player of the week.

Orioles -- Optioned P Brad Pennington to Triple-A Rochester and recalled P Mike Oquist from Rochester.

New York Mets -- Recalled P Mauro Gozzo and P Josias Manzanillo from Triple-A Norfolk; assigned P Jonathan Hurst and P Dave Telgheder to Norfolk.

New York Yankees -- Activated P Paul Gibson from his injury-rehabilitation assignment; designated P Bob Ojeda for assignment.

St. Louis Cardinals -- Placed P Mike Perez on the 15-day disabled list. Purchased the contract of P Willie Smith from Triple-A Louisville. Waived P Clint Davis for the purpose of giving him his unconditional release.

Texas Rangers -- Purchased the contract OF Oddibe McDowell from Triple-A Oklahoma City. Recalled P Darren Oliver from Oklahoma City. Placed OF Rob Ducey on waivers for the purpose of giving him his unconditional release. Optioned P James Hurst to Oklahoma City.
