NEW BRITIAN, CONN. — NEW BRITAIN, Conn. -- Hector Vargas hit a two-run home run with two out in the ninth inning to lead the Bowie Baysox past the New Britain Red Sox, 7-6, yesterday in a Double-A Eastern League game.

The Baysox led 4-0 until New Britain's Matt Stairs hit a three-run homer to cap a six-run seventh, giving the Red Sox a 6-4 lead. Stairs' home run was only the third given up by Baysox pitchers this year.

Steve Chitren (1-1) earned the win for the Baysox, and Joe Borowski got his first save of the season.
