John Carroll School newspaper honored

The John Carroll School student newspaper, Patriot, received the General Excellence Award for the best overall high school newspaper at the 1994 Student Journalism Contest for the Archdiocese of Baltimore. The contest was sponsored by the Catholic Review.

This marks the second year in a row that the Patriot has won in the general excellence category. The newspaper captured first place in five of the 10 categories.

Joan of Arc pupil gets poem published

A poem by Brad Lhotsky, a seventh-grade student at St. Joan of Arc school in Aberdeen, will appear in the 1994 edition of VTC Anthology of Poetry by Young Americans," to be published this month.

Brad's poem, "Hurricane," was accepted as "one of the most creative submissions."

He was urged to enter the poem by his English teacher, Ray Bourdeau.

Brad is the son of Michael and Linda Lhotsky of Havre de Grace.

Fallston's Harrison is top scholar-athlete

Chris Harrison, a senior at Fallston High School, recently was named the Eastern Regional Greater Chapter of National Football Foundation Hall of Fame Scholar Athlete. He was awarded a $1,500 scholarship.

Mr. Harrison, captain of the football team and senior class executive, has a 3.74 grade point average.

He plans to attend Cornell University in the fall.

Fallston grad honored at Elizabethtown

Elizabeth A. Havener has won departmental honors for outstanding academic performance in biology at Elizabethtown College.

Ms. Havener, a senior, is a 1990 graduate of Fallston High School.

She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert W. Havener of Fallston.
