Aberdeen Mayoral Candidates State Their Casas

April 24, 1994|By CHARLES R. BOUTIN

One of my first objectives will be to restore government by consensus to the Aberdeen City Council. I would pledge at the outset that once a vote is taken, I will support the majority view regardless of what side of the issue I was on. . . .

The next issue that I think is extremely important is the water supply situation in our city. . . . I believe that this matter should be decided almost immediately so we can guarantee a continued expansion of water supply. . . .

We must have a constantly expanding tax base in order to maintain the tax rate. We also must have the services necessary to provide to the citizens for the taxes that they pay. The amount of available land that exists within city borders is dwindling and there are excellent opportunities in the immediate environment for annexation. . . .

Another item of great concern to me is to make sure that the Higher Education and Applied Technology (HEAT) project gets off the ground and is finally developed. . . .

I was successful in my first term in having the charter reviewed with an amendment that would include term limitation for a maximum of three two-year terms. I also still believe we should push forward with a management study for the city. This city has never had a management study to determine whether it is operating in an efficient manner. . . .

The Aberdeen Police Department over these past months has made a number of strides. There are currently meetings on a periodic basis between a committee of officers and the city government to make sure that items of interest of the department are given careful attention. I would like to see an expanded department to include foot patrols in areas where there are high crime statistics. I would also like to see the department undergo sensitivity training with respect to the constant dealing of an interracial nature. . . .

I will go to Annapolis when the legislature is in session to meet with our delegation and let them know of the wants and needs of the city of Aberdeen.

I also intend on having a close working relationship with our county executive, the Aberdeen Proving Ground command and the Harford schools superintendent.
