A man riding a multi-speed mountain bike was killed shortly before 1 a.m. today when he was struck by a car at the intersection of Perring Parkway and Putty Hill Avenue, Baltimore County police said.

Officer Jeff Parsons of the traffic investigation section said Scott David Milburn, 19, of the 7600 block of Old Harford Road, was riding his bike westbound on Putty Hill Avenue around 12:45 a.m. when he ran a red light and was struck by a Honda Accord southbound on Perring Parkway and driven by Andrei Kareem Tobias, 21, of the 2200 block of Corona Court.

Officer Parsons said Mr. Milburn sustained massive multiple injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The motorist, said Officer Parsons, suffered lacerations to the face and head and was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital. He was expected to be released.

Officer Parsons said driver error by the bicyclist contributed to the accident.
