Towson High School reported six students placed as semifinalists and 16 placed as commended students in the 1994 Merit Scholarship Competition. Semifinalists are Thomas Carruthers, Eva Kaplan, Franklin Liu, Alicia Rabins and Dan Scheflen. Commended students include Peter Allen, Ara Armen, Dan Bredbenner, Christine Cooney, Jason Hammer, Lauren Jones, Josh Kaminsky, Emily Nothstein, Carrie Peck, Carter Petty, Elizabeth Revelle, Dan South, Robert Tillman, Elisabeth Vaeth, Ian Wilmoth and Amy Wirth.

Roland Park Country School junior Micah Mitchell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Mitchell, has been named to the Greater Baltimore Committee 1994 Student Leadership Program.

Cara Pasquali, a fourth-grade student at the 7th District Elementary School in Parkton, created the winning poster for the 1994 Epilepsy Prevention/Bicycle Poster Contest.

Don P. Giddens, dean of the Johns Hopkins School of Engineering, has been named recipient of the 1993 H. R. Lissner Award of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers for his contributions to the field of biomechanical research.
