Man faces drug charges after Route 97 traffic stop

April 14, 1994

A 38-year-old Anne Arundel County man was arrested on drug charges after being stopped on suspicion of speeding Monday morning

State police said Christopher Gerard MacCubin of Glen Burnie was driving north on Route 97, north of Bartholow Road, about 1 a.m. when Tfc. John Wimmer clocked his vehicle at 69 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone and pulled him over.

The driver's condition prompted Trooper Wimmer to give field tests for sobriety, which Mr. MacCubin failed, police said.

After arresting Mr. MacCubin, Trooper Wimmer searched the car and found a paper bag of leaf flakes, a bottle of suspected PCP and cigarette rolling papers in the glove compartment, according to police.

Mr. MacCubin was charged with possession of PCP and paraphernalia, and driving while under the influence of drugs.

He was also charged with speeding and failure to render a registration card for the vehicle.

Bond initially was set at $10,000 but was reduced to $2,500 in a bail review hearing Tuesday.
