Rangers update

The Rangers, who open their new Ballpark in Arlington on Monday, won four of six in Baltimore last year, and won the season series, 8-4, for the first since 1986. Texas hit 24 homers off Orioles pitching last season, and third baseman Dean Palmer and home run champion Juan Gonzalez had seven each. The Rangers dropped their first two games of the season in New York. First baseman Will Clark, the Rangers' most significant off-season acquisition, had six hits against the Orioles in two spring training games.

Orioles update

The Orioles are off to their first 2-0 start in five years and can reach 3-0 for the first time in nine seasons with a win tonight. After tonight, the Orioles, who were 22-24 in afternoon games last season, will play five straight day games. Brady Anderson, who led the majors last season in RBIs among leadoff hitters, has two. Former Texas first baseman Rafael Palmeiro has homered in his first two games, and was 2-for-3 in a spring training game against the Rangers. Closer Lee Smith has saved both Orioles wins, throwing a total of 15 pitches.
