FROSTBURG — Bambacus is running for mayor of Frostburg

FROSTBURG -- Former state Sen. John Bambacus has decided to run for mayor of Frostburg.

He served in the Maryland Senate from 1982 to 1991 before leaving to spend more time with his family.

Since leaving the Senate, Mr. Bambacus, a Republican and a political science professor at Frostburg State University, has served on several statewide committees, including the Maryland Sports Commission and the Maryland Rural Affairs Committee.

Seven indicted on cocaine charges


SEVERN -- Seven people were charged yesterday with numerous counts of cocaine possession after Anne Arundel County police officers raided their home in Pioneer City.

Police raided a house in the 1900 block of Arwell Court about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. It was their second raid on the house in two months. They arrested five people in the house and two more in a car that was headed toward the house.

The car's occupants were identified as Timothy James Dorsey, 22, of the 8600 block of Pioneer Drive, Severn, and Dennis Raymond Smith, 31, of the 6700 block of Sewells Fortune Drive, in Columbia. Each was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of crack cocaine.

Each of the five people in the house was charged with possession of crack cocaine.

Police identified them as Jennette Elaine Brown, 36, who lived at the raided house; Elizabeth Ardella Lewis, 46, of the 1200 block of Thompson Ave., Severn; Paulette Douglas, 38, of the 1200 block of E. Preston St., Baltimore; Elizabeth Marlene Penny, 30, of the 5800 block of Morning Bird Lane, Columbia; and Maria Angela Summers, 28, of the 7800 block of S. Hampton Drive, Glen Burnie.
