Long's four goals lead Navy, 10-9

WEST POINT — WEST POINT, N.Y. -- Matt Long scored four goals to lead Navy to a 10-9 victory over Army yesterday.

Navy (4-2) broke a 3-3 tie after the first quarter by outscoring Army 4-2 in the second quarter for a 7-5 halftime advantage.

Navy scored four times in three minutes on goals by Long, Rob Bailey, Jamie Slough and Andy Ross. Army (2-4) rallied in the third quarter, outscoring Navy 3-1 to tie the score at 8.

Charles Bertrand put the Mids ahead by one goal, scoring at 13:04 of the fourth. Two minutes later, Long gave Navy a two-goal lead after intercepting a pass on a clear.

Army would score just once more, midway through the final quarter.

Navy goalkeeper Garrett Luebker recorded a career-high 26

saves, one shy of the Navy single-game record.
