Severna Park defeats No. 8 Knights

In an Anne Arundel 4A League baseball game, Brad Tippin and Tim Williams each had a home run to lead Severna Park (1-0) to a 7-1 victory over No. 8 North County (0-1).

* Arundel 10, Oakland Mills 2: Pitcher Jamie Stoddard struck out five and walked none in four innings to lead No. 3 Arundel (2-0) over unranked Oakland Mills (0-1) in the first round of the Arundel Baseball Tournament.

Arundel's Jeff Hedrick had two hits and one RBI.

The next game in the tournament will be Queen Anne's against No. 1 Calvert Hall at 10 a.m. tomorrow. The consolation game will be at 12:30 and the championship is expected to begin at 3:30.

* Mount St. Joseph 7, Spalding 0: Steve Matcuk had 10 strikeouts to lead No. 6 Mount St. Joseph (2-0) to its second shutout.

Eric Jeschke hit a home run for the Gaels.

* Loyola 6, Gibbons 4: Right-hander Mike Dowgiewicz struck out as host Loyola (4-0) defeated Cardinal Gibbons.

* Edgewood 9, Dunbar 1: Edgewood pitcher Tim Hamulack allowed eight hits, struck out 11 and walked only one batter in a complete-game win over visiting Dunbar (0-2). Junior third baseman Robbie Mister had two triples and two RBIs for No. 16 Edgewood (2-1).

Boys lacrosse

* Boys' Latin 11, John Carroll 3: Chris Turner led No. 5 Boys' Latin (5-1) with two goals and four assists as the Lakers beat the Patriots (0-1).

* Arundel 6, Landon 4: Senior midfielder Chris Turner scored three goals to lead No. 14 Arundel (2-0) to a victory over Landon (1-1) in the Horace Greeley Tournament at Arundel.

Tom Newberry, a junior goalie, made 17 saves for the Wildcats.

* Glen Burnie 4, Easton 3: Seth Murphy scored two goals to lead Glen Burnie (2-2) past Easton in the semifinals of the Griffin Tournament at Northeast.

* Northeast 7, Gibbons 5: Junior John Ingram had four goals and one assist to lead Griffin tournament host Northeast (1-0) past Gibbons. Northeast held Gibbons scoreless in the first half and held off a second-half Gibbons comeback. Northeast faces Glen Burnie in the championship game tonight at 7.

Gibbons will play Easton in the consolation game.

* Mervo 4, Northern 2: Joseph Cole scored two goals as Mervo (1-3) edged Northern (0-4) in a Baltimore City-Wide League

game. This was Mervo's first win in two years.

Girls lacrosse

* Mount de Sales 23, Franklin 5: Visiting No. 7 Mount de Sales (6-0) scored 12 first-half goals to take a solid win over Franklin.

* St. Mary's 15, Old Mill 6:Stephanie Fallon scored six goals to lead No. 10 St. Mary's (3-1) past Old Mill. Meghan Hill had three assists for St. Mary's. * Bryn Mawr 7, Garrison Forest 7: Carol Fakhry led No. 14 Bryn Mawr (2-1-1) with three goals, but the Mawrtians ended in a tie with Garrison Forest (0-0-1).

* Arundel 12, Atholton 4: Arundel (1-0) defeated visiting Atholton (0-1) in an Arundel Spring Lacrosse Tournament.

Softball

* McDonogh 8, Catholic 6: Lauren Mishner, a junior second baseman, hit a double and a triple to lead McDonogh (3-1,22-1) in a win over Catholic (1-1) in a Catholic League game.

Jen Egge and Chrissy Creighton added a double each for the Eagles.

Marie Morrow led Catholic with a double and a triple.

* Franklin 9, Hereford 4: Ivy Hailey and Cindy Coleman each had a double as Franklin (2-1) passed Hereford (3-1).

* Patterson 15, Lake Clifton 0: Anna Kakavas, a junior outfielder, hit in a triple for Patterson (3-1, 2-0) in a shutout of Lake Clifton (0-2, 0-2) in a Baltimore City 4A League game.

Yadira Rodriguez added a double for the Clippers.

* Frederick 22, Liberty 0: Tracy Watts pitched a five-inning no-hitter as Frederick (4-0) shut out Liberty (1-3).

* Chesapeake-AA 3, Old Mill 2: Chesapeake-AA (1-0) had three runs in the first inning in its victory over Old Mill (0-1).
