Orioles -- Announced the retirement of C Rich Gedman. Optioned OF Mark Smith to Triple-A Rochester.

California Angels -- Signed P Ken Patterson to a minor-league contract.

Chicago Cubs -- Purchased the contract of C Mark Parent from Triple-A Iowa.. Optioned OF Kevin Roberson and OF Scott Bullett to Iowa. Sent C Mike Maksudian to their minor-league camp for reassignment.

Chicago White Sox -- Announced that OF Michael Jordan has been assigned to Double-A Birmingham.

Cleveland Indians -- Agreed to terms with C Sandy Alomar Jr. on a three-year contract extension through 1997. Sent IF Tim Jones and P David Lynch to their minor-league camp for reassignment. Optioned P Albie Lopez to Triple-A Charlotte.

Cincinnati Reds -- Purchased the contract of OF Jerome Walton from Triple-A Indianapolis. Optioned P Jerry Spradlin to Indianapolis. Assigned P Rich Sauveur to Indianapolis. Sent OF Adam Hyzdu to Double-A Chattanooga.

Detroit Tigers -- Assigned 1B Alan Zinter to Triple-A Toledo. Optioned P Buddy Groom to Toledo.

Florida Marlins -- Placed IF Dave Magadan on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 29. Released IF Mario Diaz Optioned C Bob Natal to Triple-A Edmonton. Sent P Brian Drahman outright to Edmonton.

Minnesota Twins -- Released 1B/OF Gene Larkin, whose 10th-inning, pinch single won the seventh game of the 1991 World Series for Minnesota, from a minor-league contract.

Montreal Expos -- Sold the contracts of OF John Vander Wal and a player to be named later to the Colorado Rockies for an undisclosed amount of cash. Released P Tim Leary.

New York Mets -- Traded 1B Alan Zinter to the Detroit Tigers for 1B Rico Brogna and assigned Brogna to Triple-A Norfolk. Sent OF Rick Parker to their minor-league camp for reassignment.

Philadelphia Phillies -- Placed 1B John Kruk and OF Wes Chamberlain on the 15-day disabled list; purchased the contracts of P Norm Charlton and P Larry Andersen from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, added them to the 40-man roster and placed them on the 15-day disabled list.

San Francisco Giants -- Claimed P Brad Brink off waivers from the Philadelphia Phillies.

College

NCAA -- Named Janet Justus director of education resources.

Michigan State -- Announced that head basketball coach Jud Heathcote will resign following the 1994-95 season.

Richmond -- Named Ken Flajole defensive coordinator; Frank Leonard offensive line coach, and Matt Griffin wide receivers coach.

Football

Dallas Cowboys -- Released TE Alfredo Roberts.

Detroit Lions -- Named Steve Kazor special teams coach.

Las Vegas Posse (CFL) -- Signed C Nick Ekonomou and T Jim Pesek.

Philadelphia Eagles -- Signed unrestricted free agent DE William Fuller, who had been with the Houston Oilers.

San Diego Chargers -- Withdrew their tender offer to RB Eric Bieniemy.

Toronto Argonauts (CFL) -- Released P Hank Ilesic; signed P Frank Jagas, P Eddie Azcona and P Mike Vanderjagt.

Washington Redskins -- Signed former Los Angeles Rams DL Tony Woods to a two-year deal.

Hockey

Anaheim Mighty Ducks -- Signed LW Maxim Bets to a multiyear contract.

New York Rangers -- Recalled D Mattias Norstrom from Binghamton (AHL).

Soccer

NPSL -- Suspended Hector Marinaro, Cleveland Crunch midfielder, for one game and fined him an undisclosed amount for his ejection from a game March 25.
