BALTIMORE — New York man is slain on girlfriend's porch

BALTIMORE -- City police responding to gunshots in the 5200 block of Ivanhoe Ave. in Govans early today found the bullet-riddled body of an 18-year-old New York man lying on the front porch of his girlfriend's home.

The victim's name was withheld pending notification of his family, who reportedly also lives in New York.

Homicide detective Donald Ossmus said it appeared the man was being chased by someone shortly after midnight and that when the victim reached his girlfriend's house, his killer caught up to him on the porch and shot him in the head several times.

The girlfriend discovered her boyfriend's body after hearing the shots and called the police.

Shortly after the man was shot, a gray Jeep Cherokee with four male occupants was seen speeding away from the scene. The vehicle's description was broadcast and police stopped it on The Alameda.

Detective Ossmus said it appeared the men were not involved in the slaying, but that one of them was to be charged with a handgun violation.
