Resurfacing Route 140 set to begin Monday

The State Highway Administration will begin resurfacing Route 140 from Route 91 to the Baltimore County line at 9 a.m. Monday. The project covers about one mile of Route 140 and includes roadway and shoulder resurfacing.

Single lane closures will occur during off-peak hours between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Arrow boards, signs, traffic cones will guide motorists through the construction area.

The project is expected to be completed in June, weather permitting.

County landfills taking hazardous materials

The Carroll County government will sponsor a household hazardous waste day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 9 at the Carroll County Maintenance Facility, 1250 Old Meadow Branch Road, Westminster.

Acceptable household hazardous materials include pesticides, aerosol paints and sprays, cleaners, oil-based paint, household batteries, varnishes, thinners and solvents.

Latex paint, explosives and radioactive material will not be accepted.

Used oil and antifreeze (up to 5 gallons per week per individual) may be taken to the Northern or Hoods Mill landfill for recycling.

Landfills are open from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays. The Recycling Center at the Hoods Mill landfill is open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

The Recycling Center at Northern Landfill has expanded its Saturday hours, effective immediately, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
