F&M women rout Washington

CHESTERTOWN -- Lauren Petrella scored eight goals, leading Franklin & Marshall to a 17-5 victory over Washington College (2-0, 2-0) in a Centennial Conference women's game yesterday.

Megan McGowan (Centennial) had four goals for Franklin & Marshall. Megan McCurdy scored two goals to lead Washington (0-3, 0-2).

* Mary Washington 11, St. Mary's 7: Heather Hallowes had three goals and three assists, leading Mary Washington past visiting St. Mary's in a Capital Athletic Conference game at Fredericksburg, Va.

* Rutgers 12, Towson State 9: Heather Jones scored five goals and added four assists as Rutgers (1-2) beat Towson State (0-5) at Camden, N.J. It was the Tigers' fifth loss in a row.


Virirginia 26, Roanoke 7: Michael Vaughn scored four goals as No. 3 Virginia (5-1) beat Roanoke (4-4) at Charlottesville, Va. 17 players scored for Virginia.

The 26 goals are the most since 1991, when the Cavaliers defeated VMI, 27-5.
