Town inspector will add safety to his duties

March 30, 1994

The Sykesville building inspector is adding occupational safety to his job duties.

Bill Oler will replace Vincent J. Diffenbaugh as the town safety coordinator in a proposal approved by the Town Council Monday.

"Bill has more than 500 hours in safety training," said Mr. Diffenbaugh, clerk/treasurer and safety officer for nearly a year.

Mr. Oler, building inspector since Jan. 1, called the change "a good challenge as long as I have the time."

He now divides his week between the office and the field, where he oversees new construction and addresses residents' concerns.

"We will have to see how we can work this into Bill's schedule," said Mayor Kenneth W. Clark.

Mr. Oler said that after several surveys of town buildings, he had compiled a long list of "to-do's," including cardiopulmonary resuscitation training for all employees.

"I have had safety meetings with people in the shop," Mr. Oler said. "I will be meeting with employees in the town office, too."
