Holy Week, Easter services listed

The churches in our community have announced their schedule of services for Holy Week and Easter.

* St. Christopher's Episcopal Church will have Eucharist at 10 a.m. today through Thursday. Tenebrae service will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Choral Eucharist and Solemn Stripping of the Altar and Sanctuary is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Maundy Thursday.

Good Friday services are: Liturgy of the Day at noon; preaching service on the Seven Last Words of Christ from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.; and the Way of the Cross at 7:30 p.m.

A brief liturgy will take place at 10 a.m. on Holy Saturday.

The Easter schedule is: 7:45 a.m., Blessing and Lighting of the Paschal Candle; 8 a.m. Eucharist with hymns; 10 a.m. choral Eucharist with brass, handbells and choir.

The church is off West Maple Road between Camp Meade and Hammonds Ferry roads. For information, call the parish office at 859-5633.

*St. Philip Neri Roman Catholic Church, 6405 Orchard Road, will have Mass at 6:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. and 7 p.m., today, tomorrow and Wednesday. On Holy Thursday, Mass starts at 7:30 p.m. with adoration until midnight.

Saturday's blessing of food baskets is scheduled for 1 p.m., and the first Mass of Easter will be at 7:30 p.m. Reception of new members into the church will take place at this time. There will be no 5 p.m. Mass this day.

Easter Masses will follow the regular schedule, 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

* The Linthicum Heights United Methodist Church is having a Communion service at 10 a.m., Holy Thursday in the Holly Run Church and at 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary, 200 School Lane.

A Good Friday Tenebrae service will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary. On Holy Saturday there will be sunrise service at 6 a.m. in the park on Benton Avenue. In case of rain, please meet in fellowship hall at the church. The 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. regular schedule will be followed for Easter.

* Peace Lutheran Church will again present a musical cantata, "Jesus Remember Me," on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. It is scheduled to be presented at two different locations. The first performance will be at Ferndale United Methodist Church, 117 Ferndale Road, at 7 p.m. on Thursday. Friday's cantata will be presented at 7 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, 416 Wellham Ave.

Easter services at Peace Lutheran will take place at 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. For additional information, please call the office at 766-3283.

* There will be a sacrificial supper and Communion at 6:30 p.m. on Holy Thursday at Ferndale United Methodist Church, 117 Ferndale Road. At 7 p.m. there will be a cantata and Tenebrae service.

The combined choirs of Ferndale Methodist and Peace Lutheran will present a cantata at 7 p.m. on Good Friday at Peace Lutheran Church.

Easter Services are at 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., with a showing of the film, "The Garden Tomb," at 9:15 a.m.

* St. John Lutheran Church, 300 West Maple Road, will celebrate Holy Communion at 11 a.m. in the chapel and at 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary on Maundy Thursday. The First Communion class will receive Communion at the evening service. A Tenebrae service will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary on Good Friday.

Easter Sunday services will be celebrated at 6:30 a.m., 8:15 a.m. and 11 a.m.

* Friendship Church of the Brethren, 217 Mansion Road, will have a Love Feast at 7 p.m. on Maundy Thursday. Everyone is invited to take part in the service that involves foot-washing, a fellowship meal and Communion.

* Local ministers will be guest preachers at the annual 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. ecumenical Good Friday service at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church.

The preaching will be interspersed with prayers and hymns. Worshipers may remain for all or any part of the service.
