PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Senior attackman Sean Heffernan (Dulaney) scored two goals and had four assists as No. 3 Loyola held off No. 11 Brown, 12-9, yesterday. It is the best start for the Greyhounds (5-0) since 1992, when they won their first six games.

Brian Duffy's goal with 10 minutes remaining in the third period gave Loyola a 9-4 lead, its largest of the game. James Gaensbauer scored to finish a four-goal Brown run to cut the lead to 9-8 with 13:18 left in the game.

Heffernan followed an assist to Halladay by scoring his fourth goal of the game to boost the Greyhounds' lead to 11-9.

Hallday finished with three goals, and sophomore midfielder Brian Basco and junior midfielder Zach Thornton (John Carroll) each added two goals apiece. Junior goalkeeper Tim McGeeney (North County) had 10 saves for Loyola.
