4 All-Metro picks in All-Star game

Four members of The Baltimore Sun All-Metro first team will participate in the third annual Maryland Women's Basketball Coaches Association All-Star Game tonight at the University of Maryland's Cole Field House.

The game, scheduled for 7 p.m., features the state's best senior players.

Hammond point guard Kacy Williams, The Baltimore Sun Co-Player of the Year, is joined on The Freestaters team by fellow All-Metro players Sonia Chase (McDonogh), Shannon Henderson (Annapolis) and Emily Yanero (Mount Hebron).

Also on the team is Kelley Gibson, who led Talbot County's Easton to its second consecutive Class 1A state title earlier this month.

Gibson and Chase have signed with Maryland, and Williams is headed to Georgetown.

Not all of the players have received scholarships, however. Those still unsigned are hoping the exposure from the game will produce some offers.

"Some kids have been signed out of this game, especially kids at the smaller schools," event chairman Don Wilson said.

At halftime, the Academic All-Maryland Team will be honored. Members include Williams, Yanero, Katie Kemerer (Broadneck), Lauren McHargue (Oakland Mills), Danielle Davis (Western) and Kristen Lloyd (Mount Hebron).

The MWBCA also will present a $500 scholarship to a top scholar-athlete.
