SEVERN -- A toddler drowned in the bathtub at his home yesterday as his mother briefly talked to someone at the door, Anne Arundel County police said.

Police said Marcus Daniel Price, 19-months, of the 1700 block of Richfield Drive, was being bathed by his mother, whose name was not available, around 5 p.m. when the mother left to answer a knock at the door.

While the mother was speaking to the person for a few minutes, she sent her daughter to check on the little boy.

Moments later, the daughter ran to get her mother when she found her brother under the water.

The mother carried the unconscious child into a bedroom and called the police.

After life-saving techniques failed to revive the child, he was transported to Kimbrough Army Hospital at Fort Meade, where efforts to save the child continued until he was pronounced dead.

Police said there were no signs of trauma on the child's body and that the death was ruled accidental pending the outcome of an investigation.
