State police criminal investigators, who ordered the body of a 94-year-old woman exhumed for an autopsy earlier this month, said yesterday they are conducting an investigation into the victim's death.

Carrie Marie Ecker, who lived at the Westminster Nursing and Convalescent Center in the 1200 block of Washington Road, died Dec. 29. She was buried in the cemetery of Sam's Creek Church of the Brethren in New Windsor.

On March 10, police ordered representatives of the Thomas D. Fletcher & Son Funeral Home to exhume her body for an autopsy at the state medical examiner's office in Baltimore.

The body was reburied the next day.

The autopsy results have not been released by police and no additional information has been released.

Detective Sgt. Donald Hoffman, chief of the criminal investigation section at the Westminster state police barracks, said after the exhumation that he would not comment on the case.

The nursing home's administrator would say only that officials there are cooperating with state police. The county's nursing home administrator said that she was aware of a state police investigation into the woman's death.
