State police arrested a 24-year-old man in connection with the Tuesday night robbery of a High's Dairy Store in Westminster when he appeared for trial in Carroll District Court yesterday in a forgery case.

Scott Eugene Dyer, of the 3900 block of Littlestown Pike, was charged with robbery, assault, felony theft, malicious destruction of property and related charges in the High's store robbery, said Tfc. Ira Click.

Police said that a robber entered the convenience store, on Route 140 near Sullivan Road, about 9:45 p.m. Tuesday and approached the cashier who was standing at the cash register.

Police said the man reached over the counter, grabbed the cashier and demanded money.

The cashier broke away, and the man climbed over the counter and attempted to open the register, but was unsuccessful, police said. Then he lifted the cash register and fled with it, police reported.

Troopers said another store employee recognized the man and gave investigators his name and a description.
