7. Virginia (17-12) vs. 10. New Mexico (23-7), 2:50 p.m. (chs. 11, 9) 2. Arizona (25-5) vs. 15. Loyola, Md. (17-12), 5:20 p.m. approx. (Ch. 11) 3. Louisville (26-5) vs. 14. Boise State (17-12), 8:13 p.m. 6. Minnesota (20-11) vs. 11. Southern Illinois (23-6), 10:43 p.m. approx.

Outlook: Virginia thrives on defense, holding opponents to 39.4 percent shooting, but the Cavaliers shoot just 39.0 percent themselves. The top players for New Mexico are G Greg Brown (19.9 ppg) and F Marlow White (17.6 ppg). Louisville lacks depth, but the starters match up with just about anyone. C Clifford Rozier (19.0 ppg, 11.1 rpg) is almost unstoppable inside, and freshman Gs Dejuan Wheat and Jason Osborne already play like veterans. Boise State is centered around John Coker (17.6 ppg, 7 rpg, 2.5 blocks). Last year's NIT champion, Minnesota, is led by Voshon Leonard (18 ppg), and the Golden Gophers' balanced attack can run by an opponent or hit from the outside in a set offense. Southern Illinois has won eight straight behind the shooting of Iowa transfer Paul Lusk (15.4 ppg, 41 percent three-point shooting).
