Landfill worker killed after falling under truck

A 59-year-old worker on a trash removal truck was killed when he tripped and fell under the rear dual wheels of the vehicle about noon yesterday at the Northern Landfill.

John Frederick Clinton Sr. of the 3100 block of Hoopers Delight Road,New Windsor, was pronounced dead at Carroll County General Hospital shortly after the accident. State police said he was an employee of the Hughes Trash Removal Co. of Hampstead.

Investigators said Mr. Clinton had gotten out of the truck to guide the driver into position to unload the vehicle when he apparently slipped on some debris and fell forward under the wheels of the truck, which was moving backward.

The driver, identified as Oscar Dorsey Keeney, 62, of the 2700 block of Old Washington Road, Westminster, was not aware of the victim's position until the truck ran over Mr. Clinton's right side, police said. No charges were filed against Mr. Keeney.

POLICE

* Westminster: An employee of Sheetz store on East Main Street reported that someone stole several small items from the store on Wednesday. The loss was estimated to be about $10.

FIRE

* Finksburg: Gamber responded to a transformer fire in the 2300 block of Kays Mill Road at 8:17 p.m. Wednesday. Units were out for 20 minutes.

* Westminster: Pleasant Valley and Westminster responded to a house fire in the 1000 block of Oak Drive at 11:31 p.m. Wednesday. Units were out for 43 minutes.
