Loyola, Mount women get NCAA prime times

March 15, 1994|By From Staff Reports

The Loyola women's basketball team will take on Virginia at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow, and the Mount St. Mary's women's team plays at Iowa at 8:30 p.m. tomorrow, in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

The times were announced yesterday for the first-round games. The second-round sites and times won't be decided until after the first round.

The Greyhounds (18-10) play at Virginia's University Hall against the Cavaliers (25-4). Virginia dropped from eighth to 10th in the Associated Press' final regular-season poll after losing to North Carolina, 77-60, in last week's Atlantic Coast Conference tournament championship.

If Loyola upsets the Cavaliers, the Greyhounds will meet the winner of the Northern Illinois-Southwest Missouri State game on either Saturday or Sunday in the second round.

The Mount (25-3) takes on 13th-ranked Iowa (20-6). The Hawkeyes were edged by Ohio State in last season's national semifinals, and are coming off a 64-58 loss to Minnesota in last week's Big Ten finale.

The winner of the Mount St. Mary's-Iowa game will play the Oregon State-Alabama winner in the second round Saturday or Sunday.
