Mount Airy trooper to receive award

Trooper 1st Class Damon L. Vinson, a resident trooper in Mount Airy, will get an award from the state police superintendent, Col. Larry W. Tolliver, for outstanding performance.

The 1993 honor is for community policing and service, 1st Sgt. Steve Reynolds said. The trooper will be honored by the Mount Airy Lions Club at a meeting, he said.

Trooper Vinson was selected Trooper of the Year at the Westminster barracks. He will compete with officers from other barracks for the state police Alumni Award.

* Mount Airy: Mount Airy assisted Frederick County at a house fire in the 5300 block of Green Valley Road at 11:19 a.m. Friday. Units were out for 22 minutes.
