Radford tops UMBC Towson falls

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Samantha Gilbert scored 21 and four-time defending champion Radford downed the UMBC women's team (15-12), 72-63, in a Big South semifinal last night.

Third seed Radford (17-11) advances to tonight's 7 p.m. final and will face UNC-Greensboro. Radford has been in eight straight finals.

Radford made 13 of its last 15 free throws to seal the win in the final 4:14 of the game.

UMBC all-conference guard Missy Quille finished with 21 points, nine rebounds and four assists. UMBC finished the season 15-12.

Senior guard Jo Zerger scored 18 points and hit all four three-point attempts to lead top-seeded North Carolina-Greensboro (17-11) over fifth seed Towson State (17-11) a semifinal.

The Spartans will face four-time defending champion Radford in the championship game tonight at 7.

The Spartans, who also beat the Tigers in last year's semifinals, used a 13-2 spurt midway through the first half to overcome a 17-15 deficit and take a 39-27 lead at halftime.

Zerger scored eight of her 18 points during the spurt, makintwo of her three-pointers. UNC-Greensboro made all five three-point attempts in the first half.
