St. John's basketball

* Grades 5-6 -- Jason Zaruba scored 10 points to pace Maroon's 23-2 win over Orange.

Ben Duke, Greg Messer and Bobby Seay paced a balanced Grey attack in an 18-9 win over Maroon. Zaruba had four for Maroon.

Tan nipped Gold, 16-15. Richie Walkling and Ryan Sebeck paced the winners with six and four points, respectively, and Sam Weber had five for Gold.

Green topped Teal, 15-11. Teal's Daniel Smyth scored six points; Green's Matt Farver and Tony Jacobson each scored four.

Blue beat Red, 19-0. Bobby Sheehy, Joe Key and Justin Williams each scored four points for Blue.

In a semifinal game, regular-season champ Grey downed Tan, 21-4. Brett Whitson, Ben Duke and Scott Whitbecker led the winners' balanced attack with four points apiece.

In the other semifinal, regular-season runner-up Blue knocked off Green, 29-15. Canaan Marsh had seven points for Blue, and Key tacked on six. Adam Gilbert led Green with seven points.

In the championship game, Blue dealt Grey its only loss of the year, 29-14. Marsh and Key again led the way for the winners, with nine and eight points, respectively. Brett Whitson had six points for Grey, and Justin Simon four.

Sandymount basketball * Grades 3-5 -- Carl Zentz scored 15 points to key Gold's 30-18 win over Black. Sean McGrew had six for Black.

Tim Love scored 15 points to lead Red to a 23-14 victory over Orange. Brendon Byrne and Adam Ridgway each scored six for Orange.

Maroon topped Green, 24-20. Green's Adam Baker led all scorers with 12 points, while Matt Thompson had six for Maroon.

* Grades 6-8 -- Adam Reese scored 28 points as his Blue squad edged Red, 50-49. Tim Riegert and Jennifer Canale each scored 14 for Red.

Black was a basket better than Gold, winning, 37-35. Gold's Michael Hookall scored 14 points, while Black's Randy Stull had 12.

Nick Jenkins' 17 points paced Green's 59-34 victory over Maroon. Beau Ridgway had eight for Maroon.

Taneytown basketball * Junior boys -- Kody Jenkins scored 52 points to lead USA (8-0) a 54-33 win over the Celtics. Mike DiBlasi scored 15 points for the Celtics.

John Packer scored 11 points to pace the Magic to a 23-11 win over the Bulls. Tyler Weant led the Bulls with seven.

* Senior boys -- The Knicks closed out a championship season with a 49-27 victory over the Hornets. Kevin DeCarlo threw in 23 points for the winners (7-1). The Hornets' Kenny Bowen had 14.

The Sonics nipped the Magic, 34-33. Jeremy Montgomery scored the winning point on a foul shot with no time remaining. The Sonics' Kory Jenkins and Magic's Eric Stonesifer led all scorers with 22 points each.

Winfield basketball * Grades 5-6 -- White downed Purple, 59-38. Derek Boswell paced its attack with 26 points, and Dan Stansbury added 17. John Fitzgerald and Cody Haslip scored 20 and 16, respectively, for Purple.

Purple beat Black, 39-36. Haslip scored 16 points for the winners and Fitzgerald added 14. Black's Nathan Karp had a game-high 17 points, and David Kemp added 13.

White closed out an unbeaten season with a 61-20 victory over Gold. Derek Boswell scored 27 points for the champs (10-0), and Dan Stansbury tacked on 22. Jake Jones led Gold with 10 points.

Mike Jenkins hit a basket with one second left to give Blue a 32-31 win overBlack. Jenkins led all scorers with 19 points. Nathan Karp had 15 for Black.

* Grades 7-8 -- Red put the finishing touches on a championship season with a 57-40 win over Purple. Nathan Russell's 27 points paced the attack for Red (7-1); Jim Shea added 14. Keith Long scored 14 for Purple.

Greg Will led all scorers with 16 points, but Blue stopped his Black team, 48-33. Sam McGrane had 12 for Blue.

Ryan Vanderlinden had 32 points as his Gold team knocked off Green, 57-35. Kevin Damiano scored 19 for Green.

* Grades 9-10 -- Black beat White, 54-50, as Dan Wroten paced the winners with 32 points. Josh Hollman had 16 for White, and Matt McGaw, 12.

Gold topped Red, 52-32. Matt Steppling and Rob Witte each scored 12 points for Gold. Matt Gallagher had 13 for Red.

White beat Red, 59-34, as Matt McGaw paced the winners with 19 points. Todd Chaney added 11 for White. Steve Murphy had 12 points for Red.

St. John's basketball * Grades 7-9 -- Mike O'Dell scored the winning basket, as the ers edged St. John's White, 26-25. O'Dell's 12 points paced the division winners (9-0). Jared Thompson had nine for St. John's White, and Chad Nagley added seven.

The Bullets topped the Lakers, 44-32. Ben Berchock's 22 points led the Bullets. Jason Beal, Brooks Wagner and Charles Devilbiss each scored six points for the Lakers.

The Bulls downed the Royals, 38-17. Kyle McDaniel had nine points for the Bulls and Ryan Buss seven. Brandon Eckes scored five for the Royals.

The Hornets topped the Lakers, 26-14, as David McNally paced the winners with eight points and Bobby Warfield added six. The Lakers' Matt Whitestone and Charles Devilbiss each scored four.
