Son of convicted man charms court workers

March 10, 1994

A 4-year-old boy won the heart of court workers Tuesday when he was left behind in a Carroll County courtroom after his father was taken to jail on drug and child desertion convictions.

Five court clerks took care of the youngster until his relatives could retrieve him.

The boy "came back here and told us his life history," said Joyce Harrington, a deputy court clerk. "He was intelligent, outgoing and he stole our hearts."

The boy was treated to licorice, drew pictures of pickup trucks, and he struck a chord when he said he was saving the last piece of licorice for his father.
