A 24-year-old Westminster man was being held at the Carroll County Detention Center on $100,000 bond last night after being charged with kidnapping his former girlfriend, false imprisonment and three counts of battery, according to district court records.

Gary Leroy Chaulk Jr. of the first block of Washington Lane is accused of accosting his former girlfriend, D'Anna Kelly, on Feb. 23 in the Cranberry Mall parking lot after she and a male friend left a restaurant and got into Ms. Kelly's car.

Ms. Kelly told investigators that she was driving the friend to his vehicle in another part of the parking lot when Mr. Chaulk drove up and demanded to know what the man was doing in her car. She told police that Mr. Chaulk demanded that she get into his pickup truck.

She asked the friend to leave to prevent any further disturbance, Ms. Kelly said. She later got out of her car after Mr. Chaulk said he just wanted to talk to her, according to court records.

Ms. Kelly reported that Mr. Chaulk assaulted her, forced her into his truck and drove to the parking lot of Random House on Route 27, where he pulled her from the vehicle and struck her in the chest several times.

She told police that he forced her back into the truck, drove to another location on Route 27 and again pulled her from the vehicle and threw her to the ground.

Mr. Chaulk was arrested Friday evening.
