3 men charged with possession of drugs, weapon

Three men were arrested on drug and weapons charges early Friday morning after an officer patrolling a Savage industrial area saw them hiding in a car, police said.

The men drew the officer's suspicion when they ducked down in their Acura as the police car approached them in the 9000 block of Junction Drive at 3:20 a.m.

According to county police, the officer searched the car after the men gave their consent, finding a .22-caliber handgun, ammunition and 15 vials of crack cocaine. The three occupants were charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession of cocaine and a weapons violation.

Twin brothers, Gerry and Gerald Brown, both 24, of Wagram, N.C., and Robert Leon Howard Jr., 24, of the 7600 block of Spencer Road in Glen Burnie, were released on $5,000 bond, a Howard District commissioner said.

Jessup apartment house damaged by fire Sunday

A vacant Jessup apartment house sustained $75,000 in structural damage after a one-alarm fire that began just after midnight on Sunday, Howard fire officials said.

The fire was reported at 12:46 a.m. and was extinguished by 2:20 a.m. Most of the fire damage was to the roof of the house, which is located in the 8200 block of Glenn Court.

The state fire marshall's office is investigating the cause of the fire, said Lt. Michael Gearhart, a fire and rescue spokesman.
