Houston Astros -- Agreed to terms with P Brian Williams, P Mike Hampton, P Todd Jones, P Domingo Jean, P Shane Reynolds, C Tony Eusebio, C Scooter Tucker, IF Andujar Cedeno, IF Chris Donnels, IF Andy Stankiewicz, IF James Mouton, IF Roberto Petagine and OF Brian Hunter. Renewed the contract of OF Braulio Castillo.

New York Yankees -- Agreed to terms with P Scott Kamieniecki and OF Bernie Williams on one-year contracts. Optioned P Mariano Rivera to Double-A Albany. Sent P Matt Drews, C Tom Wilson and C Kiki Hernandez to their minor-league camp for reassignment.

Pittsburgh Pirates -- Sent C Mandy Romero to their minor-league camp for reassignment.


NBA -- Suspended San Antonio Spurs F Dennis Rodman one game without pay and fined him $5,000 for head-butting Utah Jazz G John Stockton in a game Wednesday.


NCAA -- Completed its follow-up to a Pacific-10 Conference investigation and placed Washington State'e athletics program on a third year of probation and stripped its track and field team of a second-place finish in an NCAA competition in 1991 for rules violations.

Capital Athletic Conference -- Named St. Mary's senior F Chris DeLisi and junior G Barry Friedman to the second team. DeLisi was eighth in the conference in scoring (17.4), third in field-goal percentage (.548) and eighth in free throw percentage (.754). Friedman was fourth in the CAC in assists (4.3) and second in free-throw percentage (83.5).

Illinois State -- Suspended F Markku Larkio indefinitely from the basketball team.

Kentucky Wesleyan -- Named William J. Meadors AD.

Texas A&M -- Named Les Koenning Jr. wide receivers coach.


Cleveland Browns -- Signed PK Matt Stover, TE Brian Kinchen, TE David Jones, TE Frank Hartley, WR Keenan McCardle, OL Orlando Brown and OL Mike Withycombe.
