Pleyo gives Northeast OT win

SALISBURY -- Jamie Pleyo hit a three-pointer with 18 seconds left in overtime to help propel sixth-seeded Northeast (12-11) past No. 2 seed Parkside of Wicomico County, 69-65, in a Class 2A, East Region semifinal last night.

Northeast junior Marcia Gaskins scored three of her game-high 21 points in overtime.

Gaskins also pulled down 13 rebounds and dished out five assists.

Pleyo contributed 20 points, and junior Jen Johansen had 15 for theEagles.

Northeast led the entire game until Parkside (21-2) tied the game with 2:30 to play in regulation.

The teams were tied at 63-63 until Northeast outscored Parkside 6-2 in the overtime.

The Eagles will play South River in the finals tomorrow at 6 p.m. at Chesapeake Community College.

The Seahawks defeated Northwestern, 64-43, last night in the other semifinal.
