Severna Park students are making All-County music

If the miserable winter of 1994 has turned even a pussycat like you into a snarling tiger, soothe your personal savage beast with these relaxing musical notes.

Congratulations to Severna Park Middle School instrumentalists who compose 25 percent of this year's All-County Orchestra!

The talented string musicians are: Julie Bott, Katy DiBlasi, Julie Dozier, Maria Hikes, Lydia Miller, Erik Myhill, Amanda Supchak and Bernadette Wilsman, (violin); Gretchan Hause, Katy Dubina and Sara Kajs (viola); Margery Couper, Meredith Gollmer, Katie Jacokes, Jeff Kimmel and Jill Turkaly (cello).

The brass players are: Sarah Gibbons, Julie Quintero and Stephanie Zonak (flute); Melissa Krohn (clarinet); Amanda Aller (trombone); and Nick Saflund (horn).

Alternates are Erin Larsen, violin; Meredith Price, viola; and Jane Hooper, flute.

* Congratulations to the Severna Park High School students who were chosen to be part of this year's All-County Band: Amy Horner, Cara Lane, Lorianne Lohan, Sara Obrecht, Matt Quinn, Stacey Quintero and Jessica Swissler (flute); Jason Hall, Rob Harting, Brian Neale, Corey Poorman and Craig White (trombone); Jeannie Centofanti, Emily Cooper and Hillary Mabbott (French horn); Nicole Crawford and Chris Larsen (string bass); Bobbie Jones, Dave Leasure and Rachel Zephir (trumpet).

Our Shepherd Lutheran Church on Benfield Road invites you to a free concert at 7 p.m. March 13 by the U.S. Army Field Service Band, which is based at Fort Meade.

Keep the music alive all year long with a subscription to the Anne Arundel Community Concert Association 1994-95 season.

Subscriptions to the five-show series will be accepted from March 14 to March 19.

Already signed for the season are the renowned Peabody Ragtime Ensemble; Tony Sandler and his ensemble in "The Words and Music of Cole Porter and Irving Berlin"; and the Cantabiles, Europe's leading male a cappella quartet.

Season tickets are $30 for adults and $10 for students, and the student ticket has been extended to include college-age.

Parents, faculty and students at Jones Elementary School are busy digging through the past. They're searching for memories -- photos, stories and other bits of nostalgia -- to include in a history that is being written of the 37-year-old school.

All items will be copied and returned to their owner. Call 544-2598.

A reminder: Giant's Apples for the Students Plus cash register tape program ends Saturday. Gather all those tapes and take them to your favorite school where they will be redeemed for valuable equipment.
