Joppatowne defeated Emmorton, 3-1, in under-10 indoor action at the Maryland Sports Arena. Goals were scored by Natalie Terzigni (two) and Mike Hammell. Garrett Schaikel had an assist.

Boys soccer

Under-10 -- Joppatowne advanced to the finals of the Maryland Sports Arena Valentine's Day Tournament, then made it through regulation and two overtimes before losing to White Marsh in a shootout.

Jamie Romano scored Joppatowne's goal on a head ball in the first half, while goalkeeper Justin Holbrook stopped a penalty kick one-on-one in regulation to force the shootout.

Joppatowne advanced to the finals with earlier victories over another White Marsh team, Pediatric Center and the Harford Kicks.

Under-12 -- The Forest Hill Force was undefeated en route to winning the Maryland Sports Arena Valentine's Day Tournament. Marking the team's success was its strong defense, allowing three goals in four games.

Eric Blom and Ryan Naden combined for 52 saves, one of which was a blocked penalty kick by Naden.

The Force won the final contest against the Greater Harford Lightning, 3-1. Other victories came against White Marsh (4-1), Hickory Lazers (2-1), and Bel Air (2-0). The Force offense was lead by Alex Markiewicz with three goals and one assist.

Eric Blom had a goal and two assists, while Anthony Collurafici, Pete Golumbek, and Ryan Nayden each had one goal. Assists were made by Pat Jackson and Steven Markiewicz.

Others contributing to the championship victory were Mike Duncan, Brent Irwin, Brian Kretzschmar, Danny Martin and Adam Soutar.

The GHSC Lightning, which finished second, advanced to the finals with wins over the Genstar Booters (3-1), the Rockets (5-0), and White Marsh Red (9-0).

In the victory over the Booters, Matt Mech scored twice, assisted by Ben Stutzer and Johnny Heatwole, and Eric Yankalonis scored, assisted by Jason Hinson.

In the wins over the Rockets and White Marsh Red, Yankalonis had a hat trick. Marco Romanell, Chad Hildebrandt, Kevin Ruzek, Heatwole, Jonathan Borozzi, Jason Hinson and Patrick Bukovsky also scored. Borozzi scored the lone goal for the Lightning against the Forest Hill Force.

Under-14 -- The Genstar Booters defeated White Marsh, 4-3, at the Maryland Sports Arena.

The Booters held a 2-1 lead at halftime with goals scored by Tim Gober and Nicole Brooks.

At the start of the second half, White Marsh tallied two quick scores to take a 3-2 lead, but scores by Dan Magee and Pat Dempsey put the Booters ahead to stay, 4-3. Brooks and Brent Haberkam had assists.

Ryan Byrd had 16 saves for the Booters. Also contributing to the victory were Joe Dilworth, Liz Pyzak, Ryan Letke, Eddie Griffin and Carlo Buendia.

Gymnastics

The Level 6 team from Aberdeen Churchville Parks & Recreation Gymnastics finished second in the team competition with a combined score of 106.75 at an invitational meet at Baltimore County Gymnastics in Baltimore last weekend.

Colleen Powers of Bel Air won gold on uneven parallel bars in the 8-11 age group with 9.3. She took second on balance beam with 9.05 and second all-around with 36.05 points.

Laura Otto of Bel Air finished third in floor exercise with 9.2. She also had a 10th-place finish on vaulting. Kelly Slagle of Forest Hill placed fifth on balance beam with 8.7 and sixth in the all-around with 34.3. Crystal Stevenson of Fallston won silver on bars with 9.25.

In the 12-14 age group, Tricia O'Connor of Aberdeen finished second on beam with 8.85, third on floor exercise with 8.95 and sixth in the all-around competition.

In vaulting, Erin Otto of Bel Air and Becky Strobel of Aberdeen tied for fifth place, and Janet Bane and Kim Jenkins, both of Bel Air, tied for eighth place. Crystal Tang of Bel Air was fifth on balance beam and eighth on floor exercise.

The ACPR Optional team was successful on a trip to Virginia for a U.S. Association of Independent Gymnastics Clubs qualifier meet. The following gymnasts qualified to the Regional Optional meet based on performances at Novak's Gymnastics: Sarah Bowman, Shannon Canami, Kelly Evans, Jennifer Fisher, Kristy Patterson, Kelly Burgos, Stacey Murnyak, Erin Nett, Alison Sheets and Beth Walls.
