Michael K. Raible, the director of planning and construction for Anne Arundel County public schools, has resigned effective March 7.

Mr. Raible, a school system employee for nine years, explained last night that he felt it "is time to move on." He said his wife, Patricia, has been named marketing and communications director for Interstate Johnson Lane, a large Southeastern brokerage firm based in Charlotte, N.C.

"When we moved here, she taught for a while in Washington, then decided she wanted to do publications consulting work and so she did that," he said. "Now it's my turn to have that kind of opportunity. It's kind of nice to have a partner like that."

He said he and his wife have made an offer on land in Charlotte, N.C., and will be living near his wife's parents. Mr. Raible said he hopes to do some consulting work for North Carolina school systems.

"Charlotte is growing rapidly and having the same kinds of problems we have," he said. "I think there will be some opportunities for me to work part time and smell the roses."
