Charles Town cancels after 3 races

CHARLES TOWN, W. Va. -- The Charles Town Races canceled yesterday's scheduled 10-race card after the third race because of hazardous track conditions.

Track officials announced the cancellation after the jockeys refused to ride the balance of the program. Jockey representatives expressed concern about uneven footing on portions of the three-quarter-mile racing strip.

Charles Town's simulcasts from Gulfstream Park in Florida and Santa Anita Park in California were not affected.

Officials will meet this morning to determine the fate of tomorrow's scheduled 10-race program.
