Newspaper asks city to annex property

February 21, 1994

Annapolis' hometown newspaper wants to move into the city.

The Capital is asking the City Council to annex its 18-acre office complex on Capital Drive just west of the city line.

Thursday night, the city's planning and zoning commission approved the request, which will go before the council next month.

The Capital already receives city water and sewer service, as well as Annapolis police and fire protection, according to Deputy Planning Director Jon Arason.

Although city services often are extended beyond the border, they cost subscribers more.

Annexation would mean lower utility bills as well as the ability to subdivide the property, Mr. Arason said.
