25 Years Ago (Week of Feb. 9-15, 1969):

* The Howard County Board of Education and the Howard County Teachers Association signed an agreement that would raise the starting pay for certified teachers to $6,800 per year beginning in September 1969. The current starting salary is $6,300.

50 Years Ago (Week of Feb. 13-19, 1944):

* A 55-year-old man who lived in the Grays area near Ellicott City was struck by a locomotive on the B&O tracks near Ilchester. The man was walking to his watchman job at the Bartgis Brothers plant when the accident occurred. His condition was reported as favorable the following day.

* The Ellicott City Homemakers Club met this week at the Ellicott City Fire House. County Home Demonstration Agent Mildred J. Flanagan gave a presentation on the care and cleaning of clothing.
