Coppin rolls to 88-74 win, clinches MEAC title again

ORANGEBURG,S.C. — ORANGEBURG, S.C. -- Keith Carmichael scored 29 points and Stephen Stewart added 23 to lead Coppin State past South Carolina State, 88-74, to clinch their fourth Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference title in the past five years.

The Eagles (19-7, 13-0) extend the nation's longest winning streak to 13 games. The Bulldogs were led by Jay Joyner's 18 points and Emmanuel Flager's 13 as South Carolina State trailed 46-33 at half.

In a 54-foul game, Coppin converted 27 of 31 free throws.

South Carolina State (9-4, 13-10) went on a 13-5 run in the second half to come within 66-60 with 7:21 left. Coppin State responded with a 16-5 spurt, led by Carmichael's six points during the 82-65 run.

Carmichael went 6-for-9 on three-pointers and the Eagles were 11-for-22.
