Accident sends man to hospital

February 17, 1994|By From Staff Reports

A two-car accident on Streaker Road near Green Hill Way in Woodbine last night sent one man to Carroll County General Hospital.

A witness said Gerald Fairbanks of 1403 Streaker Road had gotten out of his 1994 Ford Ranger pickup truck to pick up his mail about 7:30 p.m. when a red Nova traveling east on Streaker struck the pickup and knocked Mr. Fairbanks to the ground.

Mr. Fairbanks, 48, was taken by a Winfield Volunteer Fire Company ambulance to the hospital with lacerations on his eye, said a man who identified himself only as Mr. Fairbanks' son-in-law.

A neighbor, John Miller, said he had just pulled into his driveway at 1411 Streaker Road when the accident occurred.

Mr. Miller said the Nova appeared to be speeding and did not slow down or attempt to swerve away before coming to a stop after the crash.

Mr. Fairbanks' pickup was knocked backward to the intersection of Green Hill Way, partially blocking the street.

State police arrived shortly after the accident.

The Nova driver's name, Mr. Fairbanks' condition and information on any charges filed in the accident were not available early last night.
