Boston Red Sox -- Agreed to terms with IF John Valentin on a one-year contract.

California Angels -- Agreed to terms with P Frank Tanana on a minor-league contract. Named Corey Woinarowicz bullpen catcher.

Colorado Rockies -- Signed OF Darrell Sherman to a one-year contract.

New York Yankees -- Agreed to terms with P Jeff Reardon on a minor-league contract. Lost arbitration case with IF Pat Kelly. An arbitrator chose Kelly's request for an $810,000 contract instead of the team's $575,000 offer.

Oakland Athletics -- Agreed to terms with P Rich Gossage on a minor-league contract.

St. Louis Cardinals -- Won arbitration case with 3B Todd Zeile. An arbitrator chose the team's offer of a $2.7 million salary instead of Zeile's request for $3.25 million.

San Diego Padres -- Agreed to terms with P Geno Petralli on a one-year contract.

Seattle Mariners -- Agreed to terms with P Jim Converse, P Dave Wainhouse, P Jeff Darwin and P Jeff Williams. Named Darrin Chamberlain associate scout in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Texas Rangers -- Agreed to terms with P Darren Oliver and P Julio Santana on one-year contracts. Named Allan Anderson minor-league pitching coach.

Charlotte Hornets -- Placed F Scott Burrell on the injured list.

Denver Nuggets -- Signed G Jim Farmer to a 10-day contract. Waived G Roy Marble.

National Christian College Athletic Association -- Named David Schmidt special assistant to the executive director.

NCAA -- Placed San Francisco State on probation for three years because 27 student athletes did not meet academic requirements. Named Marilyn Moniz-Kaho'ohanohano, Hawaii assistant athletic director, to the Division I women's volleyball committee.

Big South Conference -- Named Towson State F Shannon Ward women's basketball Co-Player of the Week.

Akron -- Named Rick Jones golf coach.
