Council OKs 2 for parks posts

February 16, 1994

The Sykesville Town Council approved the appointments of two new members to the Parks and Recreation Commission Monday.

Kenneth A. Whalen Jr. and Claudia E. Sprenger-Cast will bring the commission to its full complement of six members.

Ms. Sprenger-Cast, 46, said she is interested in helping to establish more recreational programs for town residents.

Mr. Whalen, 36, who has coached in several softball leagues, said he hopes to boost participation in local sports.

"We hope to start the adult softball league earlier this year," said Mr. Whalen. "We have had a lot of people returning to play."

The new members responded when Councilman William R. "Bill" Hall Jr. made a plea for volunteers to serve on the commission, which had been beset with resignations.

"We have a lot of projects, and we need soldiers," said Mr. Hall, who serves as liaison to the commission.
