Cub Scout honored at St. Bernadette's for winning Catholic award

Patrick Mullen of Cub Scout Pack 663 was honored recently during a liturgy at St. Bernadette Church in Severn.

The 8-year-old son of Patrick and Regina Mullen earned the Parvuli Dei Award, a religious emblem of the Catholic faith earned by Cub Scouts. For three months, Patrick performed community service, studied with his parish priest, the Rev. Domenic Cieri, and conducted prayer services at home.

Among those celebrating Patrick's achievement were his parents, his sister, Kelly, his grandparents Tom and Jeanne Matthews, Betty Mullen, Bear Den Leader George Yeager and Cub Scout Pack 663 Cubmaster Linda Fonteneau.

Each month Waugh Chapel Elementary School students work toward a different theme to earn citizenship slips. January's theme was "Joining Together for a New Start."

Teachers asked students to think about the past month at school and look at what worked and or didn't work. The teachers were looking for changes that improved the boys and girls and their classroom.

These students were recognized for their efforts: Anthony Anderson, Tiffany Boiler, Allyce Benson, Leah Brandon, Charles Burneson, Patty Chaney, Joseph Cruz, Annamarie Damron, Michael Daniels, Megan Dukes, Nicholas Dukes, Justin Ford, Jennifer Francis, Ryan Graves, Danny Haberman, Sam Haberman, Amanda Hansen, Hannah Heckman, Lindsey Hines, Samantha Hines, Michael Hood.

Also, Alicia Jones, Tanisha Johnson, Corey Mack, Ashley Madsen, Kisha McFadden, Shamiska McFadden, Andrew Myers, Diane Newcomer, Peter Nguyen, Megan Ober, Kelly Paris, Billy Proctor, April Randes, Steven Salo, Chase Sands, Tyler Swank, Jessica Upchurch, Alexis Viera, Nicole Webb, Tabitha Williams and Amy Wyatt.

Ark and Dove Presbyterian Church in Odenton has selected Thomas Clark Architects of Baltimore to help develop a master plan for its property on Piney Orchard Parkway site.

The firm will design the first building in what is anticipated to be a three- or four-phase building program on land just south of Odenton Baptist Church.

Thomas Clark has received numerous architectural awards and has worked on displays at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. Mr. Clark's extensive experience with designing churches includes projects for Govans Presbyterian Church in Baltimore and Fallston Presbyterian Church in Fallston.

The Ark and Dove congregation worships at Arundel Crossing West, near the intersection of Route 175 and Telegraph Road.

The 2-year-old church has well over 150 members and children and is outgrowing its rented space. Worship is on Sundays at 10:30 a.m., and youth ministry is at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesdays.

A three-part money management seminar will be held at Wesley Grove Methodist Church on 1320 Dorsey Road in Harmans.

The classes are held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 26 and March 5.

The seminar covers basic financial planning topics and 1994 tax strategies.

The seminar fee is $39, which covers the cost of instruction and all materials, including a workbook and study aids.
