Age: 17

Angela heads the school's National Honor Society and plays varsity field hockey. She also is a member of Peer Leaders of Oakland Mills (PLOOM), an organization that steers students away from drugs and alcohol.

Angela is involved with several environmental awareness groups. She was co-president of Students Against Violations of the Earth last year, when she also co-founded another student group, Down to Earth West. She was a speaker for the Howard County Earth Action Network.

She is a Maryland Distinguished Scholar Finalist and a National Merit Scholar semifinalist. She is a member of the school's International Club.

Outside of school, she volunteers at soup kitchens, the Grassroots Coalition for Environmental and Economic Justice and the Appalachian Service Project, in which she and a group of 60 other people repair houses for the needy.

Plans: She would like to study environmental science in college.

Her comments: "It's really important to network and get in touch with other people. It's important to tell them what you think."
