Ray reaches 1,000 points in Navy's 69-59 win over Lafayette

WEST LONG BRANCH, NEW JERSEY — Yolanda Ray became Navy's fifth 1,000-point scorer on her first basket of the game to help host Navy end a three-game skid with a 69-59 victory over Lafayette at Alumni Hall yesterday.

Ray finished with a team-high 16 points and 11 rebounds to rank as Navy's eighth all-time leading rebounder at 501. She becomes the second women's player in Navy history to amass 1,000 points and 500 rebounds in a career.

Navy's Jenna Hausvik had 15 points and eight rebounds before fouling out with 6:13 remaining. Adria Schneck recorded her second double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Mount 96, Monmouth 64

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. -- In a matchup of the top two teams in the Northeast Conference, defending champion Mount St. Mary's (18-2, 14-0) played a near-perfect first half and defeated Monmouth (12-9, 10-3) for its 14th straight victory.

Monmouth's winning streak ended at 10 games, as the Hawks' two top scorers, Christa Ciriani (12.2 ppg) and Ramona Johnson (11.7), got into early foul trouble and combined to score just 15 points.

UMBC 64, Charleston S. 51

Missy Quille (Annapolis) scored a game-high 20 to lead UMBC (11-9, 10-3) to a Big South Conference victory over visiting

Charleston Southern (3-17, 2-11) at UMBC Fieldhouse. It was UMBC's seventh straight win, a school record.

Florida A&M 73, Coppin 70

Angela McPhaul and Cathy Robinson each scored 16 points, rallying visiting Florida A&M (14-7, 9-2) from an eight-point halftime deficit and past Coppin State (6-15, 5-6) in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference game.

Renee Doctor led Coppin State with 21 points and 15 rebounds and Stephanie Ready added 12 points and four assists.

Gallaudet 72, Goucher 71

Letty Perez hit two free throws with 16 seconds left to seal a Gallaudet (18-12, 3-5) win over host Goucher (11-8, 4-4) in a Capital Athletic Conference game.

Sonya Jones' three-pointer with four seconds left brought Goucher within one. Jones had 18 points and Cassandra Clemons added 15.

G; Gallaudet's Leslie Janda had 14 points and 14 rebounds.

Towson 76, Coastal Carolina 60

Shannon Ward scored 26, including 19 in the first half, as Towson State (12-8, 8-5) beat Coastal Carolina in a Big South Conference game, avenging an earlier six-point loss and extending its winning streak to four games.

J. Hopkins 67, W. Maryland 54

Amy Dodril scored 22 points and Karen Hoffman added 20 to leadJohns Hopkins (12-6, 8-4) over visiting Western Maryland (10-8, 5-6) in a Centennial Conference game.

Morgan 73, Beth.-Cookman 58

Kaira Warfield had 22 points, seven rebounds, six assists and five steals and Chanel Johnson added 17 points to lead Morgan State (3-20, 3-9) past visiting Bethune-Cookman (5-15, 3-9) in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference game.
