California Angels -- Named Bob Fountaine Jr. assistant VP of scouting and player personnel. Invited following players to major-league camp as nonroster players: P Colin Charland, P John Dopson (Finksburg), P Bruce Egloff, P John Fritz, P Shawn Hillegas, P Andrew Lorraine, P Bob Patterson, P Bill Sampen, C Jorge Fabregas, C Jose Monzon, C Fausto Tejero, IF P. J. Forbes and former Orioles OF Nelson Simmons.

Cincinnati Reds -- Signed C Barry Lyons to a one-year contract with Triple-A Indianapolis.

Cleveland Indians -- Agreed to terms with P Jeff Johnson on a minor-league contract.

Colorado Rockies -- Agreed to terms with 3B Charlie Hayes (.305, 25 HRs, 98 RBIs, league-leading 45 doubles) on a one-year, $3 million contract and avoided salary arbitration. Hayes wanted $3.55 million and the Rockies offered $2.75 million.

Los Angeles Dodgers -- Reached contract agreements with IF Mike Busch and P Nelson Castro.

Montreal Expos -- Agreed to terms with OF Moises Alou (.286, 18 HRs, 85 RBIs) on a one-year, $1.4 million contract. The agreement was midway between the $1.6 million Alou asked for in arbitration and the $1.2 million he was offered.

New York Mets -- Agreed to terms with former Orioles 1B Glenn Davis on a minor-league contract and invited him to major-league camp as a nonroster player.

Philadelphia Phillies -- Traded P Terry Mulholland to the New York Yankees for P Bobby Munoz, P Ryan Karp and IF Kevin Jordan. Placed Munoz and Jordan on the 40-man roster and invited Karp to major-league camp as a nonroster player.

San Diego Padres -- Signed P Doug Brocail, P Tim Mauser, IF Guillermo Velasquez, IF Ray Holbert and C-OF Phil Clark to one-year contracts.

Basketball

NBA -- Fined Phoenix G Kevin Johnson $7,500 for a flagrant foul against Chicago Bulls G Steve Kerr in a game Feb. 6. Named Seattle SuperSonics G Gary Payton to the Western Conference All-Star team replacing Phoenix Suns F Charles Barkley, who is injured. Payton (16.2 ppg, 6.3 apg) had received the highest number of votes among all West players not selected as a reserve by the conference's head coaches last week.

Indiana Pacers -- Activated F Dale Davis from the injured list. Placed F LaSalle Thompson on the injured list.

Colleges

Great Midwest Conference -- Suspended Memphis State coach Larry Finch, G Chris Garner, F Cedric Henderson and C Michael Simmons and Dayton C Chip Hare one game for participation in a brawl during Saturday's game.

Arkansas State -- Named Jeff Massey strength and conditioning coach.

Louisiana State -- Named Lee Fobbs and Pete Fredenburg assistant football coaches.

Quincy -- Signed men's basketball coach Steve Hawkins through the 1996-97 season.

Miami -- Named Willy Robinson defensive coordinator.

Syracuse -- LB Dan Conley, who missed his entire senior season because of reconstructive knee surgery, petitioned the NCAA to allow him to a sixth year to complete his eligibility.

Wingate -- Named Doug Malone football coach.

Football

Atlanta Falcons -- Named Ron Medlin head trainer.

Cleveland Browns -- Named Rick Venturi defensive backfield coach.

Houston Oilers -- Named Jeff Fisher defensive coordinator.

Indianapolis Colts -- Named Jimmy Robinson receivers coach and Tom Batta special teams coach.

Los Angeles Rams -- Named Cleveland Harris offensive coordinator.

Phoenix Cardinals -- Promoted college scouting director Bob Ackles to assistant GM.

San Diego Chargers -- Signed LB Junior Seau to a four-year contract.

San Francisco 49ers -- Named Ray Rhodes defensive coordinator, John Marshall defensive line coach and Dwaine Board defensive line assistant.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats (CFL) -- Signed QB Joseph Mauldin, WR Mark Morgan, LB Curtis McMillan and DE Mylai Tenner to one-year contracts.

Ottawa Senators -- Assigned D Francois Leroux to AHL Prince Edward Island.

Vancouver Canucks -- Recalled G Mike Fountain from AHL Hamilton.

Thunder -- Announced the retirement of F John Tucker (Johns Hopkins) and named him an assistant coach.

Olympics

Italian Athletic Federation -- Dropped downhill skier Franco Colturi after testing positive for anabolic steroids.

USA Wrestling -- Named Joe DeMeo coach and Rob Hermann assistant coach for the 1994 Greco-Roman World team.
